The authorities of the Canton Grisons draw a positive conclusion to the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. The safety and security of the populace and guests were guaranteed at all times during the 56th annual meeting.
This year, about 400 persons protected under international law attended the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos; security measures were taken for a total of 125 persons. The strong presence of various foreign states coupled with the current geopolitical situation resulted in numerous demonstrations not only in Davos, but also throughout Switzerland. Not all demonstrations were entirely peaceful, triggering an exceptionally high level of effort on the part of the police forces in Switzerland.
“In times like these, demonstrations are an important means of expressing one’s opinion. The fact that some people abuse this type of demonstration for violence is a disturbing development hindering any dialogue” says Marcus Caduff, member of the governing council of the Canton Grisons and head of the WEF Committee for the Government of the Canton Grisons.
Thanks to all partners
The security measures have proven themselves yet again this year and cooperation between the various services was smooth. “I would like to extend a sincere thanks to all cantons and cities as well as the various partners at the federal level for helping to make possible the annual meeting of the WEF in Davos. We would like to especially thank all members of the police force for their outstanding performance” says Peter Peyer, head of the Department of Justice, Safety and Health.
Thanks goes out as well to the municipality of Davos for their long-term cooperation in support of the annual meeting of the WEF. This year, the fire department responded to two incidents in Davos, which they quickly reached and resolved via the designated rescue routes.
